Skijouring Event at Soldier Hollow This Weekend
0Skijouring Event at Soldier Hollow This Weekend
Skijouring at Soldier Hollow will be presenting an event in Midway, Utah on February 17-18, 2017. The action-packed competition will have competitors racing through a course that includes gates, jumps, and rings to see who will come out with the fastest combined times and win some cash and prizes.
If you’re not familiar with skijouring, here’s a little background. Western skijouring is when a horse and rider pull a skier at a fast pace through a course with different obstacles. It combines Utah’s ski heritage with cowboy roots into a crazy, exciting event. Anyone who has a passion for skiing, horses and fast speeds might want to look into this fantastic sport. During the two-day competition, scoring is timing based and the times from each run is combined for an overall score. Any missed gates or dropped/missed rings add a time penalty to the score (two seconds added).
The competition begins at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17. That night there is a fundraising dinner at the Soldier Hollow Grill, and all proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the National Ability Center. The National Ability Center is one of the leading community programs in the country that provides sports and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Tickets to the dinner are $35.00 and can be purchased here. On Saturday, the competition begins at 11:30 a.m. with a Big Air Contest tentatively starting at 4:30 p.m. (Big Air competition will start after the race).
The energy is high and the excitement is contagious at a skijouring event. It’ll be a great time for the whole family or a group of friends. Be sure to dress up warm and cozy for Skijouring at Soldier Hollow. Tickets are available on the Skijouring Utah Web site.
