Why You Need What I Got For Christmas, NOW!
1Why You Need What I Got For Christmas, NOW!
Why do you need it now? Because Christmas is over, January is boring , and what I got is awesome!
It’s been a month since Christmas. It feels like ages ago now, doesn’t it? January has that effect. Well, I’ve had a short time using the items I got for Christmas and I have determined they are all still cool!
Here’s what I got:
1. Google Chromecast
2. USB hub
3. Mini fridge
4. Camelbak Eddy Water Bottle
5. Motorola 2-way radio set
Google Chromecast:
I wrote a little about this just before Christmas. Check it out here.
It works great for Netflix and YouTube so far, but since I already have access to both of those with my apple tv and google TV, it’s nothing new. It’s still cool since it was only $35 bucks and is tiny compared to the others.
I tried it at a hotel in Vegas during our trip to CES 2014, but it wouldn’t connect. Most likely the hotel blocking access. So it won’t work everywhere since it utilizes the wifi network and you may not have complete control over the wifi settings.
Still testing it out. I know more apps will add in the casting ability over time, so I am confident my uses for it will increase.
Overall, still worth having.
USB hub:
I had some trouble connecting my iPhone and iPad chargers to some of the ports, but one of them works, so it’s all good now. All other flash drives and USB cables I tried work fine. It makes it nice to not have to reach behind my Mac mini to find a port. It’s much more convenient for plugging in USB devices. For only $16 bucks I can’t complain.
Mini Fridge:
I’m using this little gem daily. What man doesn’t want a mini fridge with cold drinks near him at all times? This fridge is awesome. It just works. I can store 6 12 ounce drinks inside, and it even has a mini shelf if desired. I use it for yogurts as well. Nice and convenient!
Camelbak Eddy Water Bottle:
It’s amazing! The best bottle I’ve found yet! Trust me, I’ve tried many and this is the best.
I love the leakproof bite valve. The wide bottle opening is perfect for filling with ice. It looks great and feels good to hold. For $12-15 you can’t go wrong. Stay tuned for a chance to win one of these in our Facebook giveaway!
Motorola 2-way radio set:
What man doesn’t love a 2-way radio? My wife surprised me and our three year old with this set and we love them! My son is still learning how to let go of the button so I can respond, so often I just hear him yelling daddy and breathing heavy, but hey, he will learn.
We plan to use the radios when we snowmobile and ski this season. We will test out the range, but it says it’s up to 25 miles depending on terrain.
This set is a great option with the carrying case and belt clips. She got it at Costco, but I found it on amazon as well for $60.
Okay, that’s a quick overview of what I got for Christmas and some of my thoughts and experiences using the items this past month. You can buy any of them on Amazon.com.
So, what do you want from this list? What do you already have? Tell us your thoughts in the comments. Happy New Year!

I like the Chromecast and agree with your opinion. Definitely a good alternative for streaming netflix on your T.V.
Also love the bottle, wide opening is key!
I’m going to buy one of those mini-fridges, for sure.
